The Vice Chancellor of Islamia University Bahawalpur (IUB), Prof Dr. Muhammad Kamran, has suspended a lecturer from the Department of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at the Bahawalnagar sub-campus over allegations of sexual harassment made by a female student. According to an IUB press release, the lecturer’s suspension came immediately after the complaint, and an inquiry has been launched. The university emphasized a zero-tolerance policy on harassment, and the anti-harassment committee is tasked with submitting a report within 30 days.

The victim approached local police after alleging that the university had attempted to suppress the issue. The police arrested the lecturer following the filing of a case against him, accusing him of sending inappropriate messages, sexually harassing, and even physically abusing the student. Reports also revealed that the lecturer had a history of harassing multiple students. Despite prior complaints, the university had previously only temporarily suspended him without taking stronger disciplinary action.
This incident has sparked criticism of IUB’s handling of harassment complaints. Another student accused the lecturer of similar misconduct and claimed the university failed to act on evidence presented in March. While the anti-harassment committee had found the lecturer guilty earlier in the year, he was reinstated after a brief suspension, leading the students to seek police intervention. University sources confirmed additional complaints against the lecturer but declined to comment on the ongoing investigation.
