Corporate‑Community Alliance Boosts Conservation of Pakistan’s Rare Freshwater Dolphin
ISLAMABAD – Zong, Pakistan’s leading technology services enterprise, has joined hands with WWF‑Pakistan to advance conservation of the endangered Indus River Dolphin, one of the world’s rarest freshwater species. The partnership supports WWF’s long‑running Indus Dolphin programme, focusing on rescue operations, ecological monitoring, community engagement, and awareness to protect the fragile river ecosystem.

The collaboration was formally launched with the inauguration of the Indus Dolphin Rescue and Mobile Awareness Ambulance at WWF‑Pakistan’s Islamabad office. The ceremony was attended by Federal Minister for Climate Change Dr. Musadik Malik, Zong Chairman and CEO Mr. Huo Junli, WWF‑Pakistan Director General Mr. Hammad Naqi Khan, and representatives from the Chinese Embassy, highlighting the initiative’s significance for Pakistan‑China cooperation in sustainability.
Officials emphasized that the dolphin ambulance will strengthen emergency response and monitoring capacity, ensuring timely rescue of stranded dolphins while engaging local communities as conservation partners. With an estimated population of 2,000 dolphins in the Indus River system, the initiative reflects Zong’s commitment to environmental stewardship and inclusive growth, demonstrating how corporate partnerships can deliver practical solutions for biodiversity protection.
