Family Trip Turns Fatal: Karachi Man Killed, Wife Critically Injured in Mastung Attack
A family vacation ended in tragedy when Ali Murtaza, a mobile phone trader from Nazimabad, Karachi, was killed and his wife critically injured in an armed attack while returning from Quetta with their children. According to reports, the family was using Google Maps for navigation when the application directed them onto an alternative route instead of the main highway. This reportedly led them into the Dasht area of Mastung, where they came under attack by armed militants.
As the family traveled through the area, gunmen opened indiscriminate fire on their vehicle. Ali Murtaza was killed at the scene, while his wife sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to a hospital, where she remains under treatment. Their young daughters, who were inside the car during the attack, witnessed the entire incident, making the tragedy even more heartbreaking.

Wrong Turn During Return Journey Leads Family into Deadly Ambush in Balochistan
Initial reports suggest the family unintentionally entered a high-risk area after following the navigation route provided by Google Maps. Navigation apps such as Google Maps typically recommend routes based on distance, travel time, and traffic conditions, but they do not always account for local security risks or conflict zones. As a result, travelers in remote or sensitive regions are often advised to verify routes with local authorities or rely on officially recommended highways.
The incident has once again raised concerns about security on certain roads in Balochistan and the potential risks of relying solely on digital navigation in conflict-affected areas. Authorities have launched an investigation into the attack, while calls have grown for stronger security measures and clearer travel advisories to help prevent similar tragedies in the future.
