Pakistan Seeks Turkish Expertise to Modernise Power Sector
Pakistan and Türkiye have signed three Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to enhance cooperation in the energy sector during high-level consultations held in Istanbul. The agreements reflect both countries’ commitment to expanding technical collaboration, strengthening institutions, and supporting the modernization of Pakistan’s power sector.
The MoUs were signed between the Independent System and Market Operator (ISMO) and Energy Exchange Istanbul (EPIAS), ISMO and the Turkish Electricity Transmission Corporation (TEIAS), and the Power Planning and Monitoring Company (PPMC) and the Turkish Electricity Distribution Corporation (TEDAS). The agreements establish frameworks for cooperation in electricity markets, transmission planning, distribution management, and power system operations.

New Pakistan-Türkiye Energy Agreements to Boost Technical Collaboration
Federal Minister for Energy Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari welcomed the agreements, saying Pakistan aims to benefit from Türkiye’s experience in electricity market reforms, transmission development, distribution modernization, and post-privatisation governance. He noted that the collaboration would help improve efficiency, governance, and service delivery in Pakistan’s energy sector.
The Turkish side reaffirmed its commitment to long-term institutional cooperation and greater engagement between the two countries. The MoUs are expected to lead to technical projects, expert exchanges, training programs, and study visits, further strengthening the strategic partnership between Pakistan and Türkiye while supporting the development of Pakistan’s energy sector.
