Rising Snapdragon Costs Push Samsung Toward In-House Chipsets
Samsung is planning to increase the use of its in-house Exynos chipsets in future Galaxy S devices after facing heavy costs with Qualcomm processors. Previously, only about 20% of Galaxy S26 units used Exynos chips, while the majority relied on Snapdragon processors, significantly impacting the company financially.
Reports suggest that the upcoming Exynos 2700 chipset could power up to 50% of Galaxy S27 devices, as Samsung looks to reduce dependence on Qualcomm amid rising chip prices. The company reportedly spent billions securing Snapdragon chips, paying around $280 per unit, making Exynos a more cost-effective alternative.
However, challenges remain. Exynos chips have faced criticism for weaker performance and heating issues compared to Snapdragon. Past production problems and low yields have also limited their use, raising concerns about whether the Exynos 2700 can deliver improved performance for consumers.
