Ex-PM Hasina Faces Asset Seizures Amid Extradition Push
DHAKA: Bangladesh authorities have seized assets worth 760 billion taka ($6.2 billion) allegedly linked to former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, her family, and 10 major business groups. The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) reported that 570 billion taka was confiscated domestically and 190 billion taka overseas, marking one of the country’s largest financial probes since Hasina’s government collapsed in 2024.
Investigators have opened 98 cases and continue efforts to trace laundered funds abroad. Officials say further progress may be reported by year’s end. The asset seizures highlight Bangladesh’s turbulent political transition as Hasina, convicted in absentia and facing extradition efforts, vows to return despite mounting legal challenges.
