12 Militants Killed as Forces Foil Check Post Attack in Bajaur
On February 17, security forces thwarted a major terrorist assault on a joint check post in Bajaur district, killing 12 attackers after they rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into the perimeter, according to Inter-Services Public Relations. The blast destroyed the post’s structure and martyred 11 personnel. Troops responded swiftly, pursuing and eliminating the assailants while preventing them from breaching defenses.

The explosion also damaged nearby homes, killing a young girl and injuring seven civilians, including women and children. Officials launched sanitisation operations in the area and reiterated that counter-terror efforts under the national security campaign would continue until militancy is eliminated. Leaders including Asif Ali Zardari and Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack, praised the forces’ response, and pledged to eradicate terrorism.
Recent security reports show militancy rose sharply in Pakistan during 2025. Data from the Pakistan Institute for Peace Studies recorded 699 attacks causing over 1,000 deaths, though the Centre for Research and Security Studies noted a decline late in the year after the closure of the border with Afghanistan, which Islamabad says helped curb militant movement.
