Walee Technologies Buys Multan Sultans for Record PKR 245 Crore, Rebrands Team as Rawalpindi
Walee Technologies created history at the Lahore Expo Centre on Monday after acquiring the former Multan Sultans franchise for a record-breaking PKR 245 crore, making it the most expensive team sale in Pakistan Super League (PSL) history. Following the acquisition, Group CEO Ahsan Tahir announced that the franchise will be rebranded as Rawalpindi ahead of the PSL 2026 season.
PSL History Made as Walee Acquires Multan Sultans, Launches New Rawalpindi Franchise
The PSL 11 franchise auction witnessed intense competition, with five technically qualified bidders vying for ownership. Walee Technologies, led by Ahsan Tahir, ultimately outbid rivals including CD Ventures and Particle Igniter. Although former franchise owner Ali Tareen and his company, Deharki Sugar Mills, were present during the proceedings, they did not submit a bid. The final sale price far exceeded the base valuation of PKR 182 crore, underlining the league’s growing commercial appeal.
The acquisition marks a significant strategic shift for the PSL, as the newly named Rawalpindi franchise aims to tap into one of Pakistan’s largest cricket fan bases in the twin cities. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi formally handed over the symbolic franchise key, declaring the lineup complete for the league’s “New Era.”
Ahsan Tahir said Walee is proud to support the growth of Pakistan cricket and plans to transform fan engagement using its expertise in MarTech and FinTech. With the Multan Sultans era coming to an end, attention now turns to the player draft, where the Rawalpindi franchise will enter with a fresh identity and the strongest financial backing in PSL history.
