Uber Quits Pakistan, Operations to Continue via Subsidiary Brand Careem

Uber to Cease Operations in Pakistan, Careem to Continue

Uber announced its decision to stop operating its ride-hailing app in Pakistan, with a spokesperson stating that the company will cease its Uber app services in Lahore as of April 30. However, Uber’s subsidiary brand Careem will continue to offer ride-hailing services across Pakistan. This move comes after Uber had acquired Careem in 2019 for $3.1 billion, with both brands initially intending to operate independently.

In October 2022, Uber had already ceased operations in Karachi, Multan, Faisalabad, Peshawar, and Islamabad, opting to operate in these cities through Careem instead. Users in Lahore, where Uber will no longer operate, were informed via email about the decision and were offered a 50% discount on five rides with Careem. Users were also given the option to fill a form if they did not want their details shared with Careem.
