Karachi Raid Uncovers Suspected International Banking Fraud Network; 11 Arrested

KARACHI: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has arrested 11 suspects, including a call centre owner from Gilgit, during a raid on an allegedly illegal international call centre in Karachi. The suspects are accused of defrauding foreign nationals, particularly citizens of the United States.

According to the NCCIA, the raid was conducted on the first floor of Zafar Centre on Shahrah-e-Faisal. Those arrested include call centre owner Yasir Gilgiti, agents, super agents and a floor manager. Two other suspects named in the case remain at large.

NCCIA Arrests Call Centre Owner from Gilgit, 10 Others in Karachi

Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspects were allegedly involved in a scheme to steal sensitive banking information from US citizens. Investigators said the suspects allegedly posed as representatives of American banks and financial institutions to deceive people over the phone.

The suspects reportedly obtained victims’ Social Security numbers and credit and debit card details through fraudulent calls. The stolen information was allegedly used to carry out unauthorised financial transactions.

During the raid, officials seized digital devices and other electronic equipment believed to be connected to the suspected activities.

The NCCIA’s Cyber Crime Reporting Centre in Karachi has registered a case against 13 suspects under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) and the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). Further investigations are underway.
