Pakistan Digital Authority Proposes National Plan to Boost Digital Economy
Pakistan could generate an estimated $60 billion to $80 billion in economic gains over the next five years through digital transformation, according to a briefing by the Pakistan Digital Authority (PDA) to the National Assembly Standing Committee on IT and Telecom. The initiative aims to accelerate economic growth, improve public services and strengthen the country’s digital economy.
Although Pakistan has developed more than 100 digital platforms, fragmented government systems, administrative inefficiencies and poor coordination continue to limit their effectiveness. The PDA has proposed a National Digital Masterplan, shared digital infrastructure, common standards and stronger coordination between federal and provincial governments to connect existing systems and improve service delivery.

Agriculture, healthcare, real estate and small and medium-sized enterprises have been identified as key sectors for potential gains. The briefing estimates that digital transformation could generate more than $9 billion in agriculture, save $450 million in healthcare, attract an additional $15 billion in real estate investment and generate $6 billion in additional revenue for SMEs, commerce and retail by 2030. However, these figures are projections, and achieving them will depend on effective implementation, secure data sharing, improved data governance and the adoption of artificial intelligence.
