Gambling Addiction Lands Malaysian Singer’s Brother in Singapore Jail
SINGAPORE: The younger brother of Malaysian singer-songwriter Diorlying has been sentenced to five months in jail after stealing approximately S$17,300 (US$13,400) from a durian stall where he worked and losing the money at a casino. Tan An Sheng, 26, took the cash from his employer’s safe while temporarily managing the stall during his supervisor’s absence.
According to local media, Tan used the safe’s passcode to steal the money on two occasions before gambling away the entire amount at Marina Bay Sands Casino in an attempt to repay debts owed to moneylenders. Although he later confessed to his employer and initially agreed to repay the stolen money through salary deductions, he allegedly resumed gambling, borrowed money from customers and nearby vendors, prompting the company to report the case to police.
The case gained widespread attention after Tan was identified as the younger brother of singer Diorlying. In a 2024 social media post, the artist revealed she had cut ties with him over his long-standing gambling addiction, alleging he had repeatedly stolen from family members and accumulated significant debts. She had also urged the public not to lend him money and to report any suspected fraud to the authorities. WebDesk
