Halal Beef Demand and Trade Access Drive Export Boom
Meat exports from Pakistan to China surged 208% between January and August 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, according to data from the General Administration of Customs of China. Shipments exceeded $9.55 million during the period, up from $3.10 million a year earlier, reflecting rapidly expanding trade in livestock products.
Analysts attribute the growth to improved quarantine coordination, approval of more Pakistani processing companies, and rising Chinese demand for premium halal beef and mutton. Exports of boiled beef alone climbed sharply to over 1,613 tons, compared with about 646 tons in the previous year, after exporters met international sanitary and phytosanitary standards.
Experts say stronger logistics links—particularly via Gwadar Port and the Khunjerab Pass—have reduced delivery times and costs, further boosting trade. Continued cooperation in animal health certification, modern breeding, feed technology, and cold-chain infrastructure is expected to expand value-added meat exports while supporting agricultural modernization and regional food security.
