Spotify CEO Daniel Ek Steps Down After Two Decades; Deputies Named Co-Leaders
Spotify founder and CEO Daniel Ek is set to step down from his role after nearly two decades at the helm of the music streaming giant. This transition, expected by the end of the year, will see two of his long-time deputies, Gustav Söderström and Alex Norström, take over the leadership. Ek will remain closely involved with the company, transitioning to the role of Executive Chairman.

Ek assured stakeholders that the dual leadership change “simply matches titles to how we already operate,” and that he will continue to play a key role in major strategic decisions. Söderström, who has been with Spotify for over 15 years, currently oversees the company’s product and technology development, while Norström manages the business operations.

Ek, whose personal net worth grew to approximately $10 billion from Spotify’s success, has also utilized his wealth to invest in external ventures, including European venture capital firms that support companies like Helsing, which develops AI-powered weapons systems in Germany.
