Tokyo Raises Travel Alert as Iran-Israel Conflict Escalates, Calls for De-escalation
Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba strongly condemned Israel’s military attacks on Iran, labeling them “totally intolerable” and “extremely regrettable” as violence intensifies across the region. Speaking to reporters, Ishiba called for both sides to exercise restraint and avoid actions that could escalate the already volatile situation. The attacks reportedly killed at least 78 people in Iran and injured over 320 others, according to Iran’s UN envoy.

In response, Iran launched retaliatory missile strikes on multiple Israeli locations Friday night, resulting in the deaths of three people and injuries to more than 170 others. The exchange of attacks continued into Saturday, raising alarm over the potential for wider regional conflict. Japan’s Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya also issued a statement condemning the Israeli strikes and expressing deep regret over the use of military action during sensitive diplomatic efforts surrounding Iran’s nuclear issue.
As tensions escalated, Japan’s Foreign Ministry raised its travel danger advisory, elevating alerts for both Iran and Israel to Level 3, advising citizens to avoid all travel. The advisory for areas near Pakistan and Iraq was raised to Level 4, the highest level, urging immediate evacuation and a complete halt to travel. Tokyo reiterated its call for maximum restraint, emphasizing the urgent need for de-escalation and peaceful resolution through diplomacy.
