Pakistani Scrabble player Waseem Khatri achieved an impressive third-place finish at the World Cup Scrabble Championship in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Competing in the top division against several world champions, Waseem demonstrated exceptional strategy and wordplay skills. Despite a rocky start, where he lost several games in the first two days, he made a remarkable comeback by winning 10 of his last 11 games.
The tournament, held over four days, saw intense competition. Eta Karo from Nigeria won the championship with a record of 23 wins out of 31 games, while 2015 World Champion Wellington Jighere finished in second place with a 20-10 record. Waseem’s strong performance, with a total of 19 wins, underscores his resilience and skill on the international Scrabble stage.
Additionally, Waseem was a finalist in the North American Championship earlier this month, making him the only player to finish in the top three in both major tournaments held in the USA this month. His achievements highlight his talent and establish him as a significant contender in the world of competitive Scrabble.
