After nearly eight years, Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries have re-recognized Pakistan’s century-old postgraduate medical degree programs, MS (Master of Surgery) and MD (Doctor of Medicine), placing them in the highest paid tier eligibility list. This recognition comes after extensive efforts by the Association of University Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (AUPSP) and a high-level delegation’s visit to the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS) in Riyadh. The delegation provided extensive documentation, leading to the reinstatement of the MD and MS programs in the senior registrar category.
The Higher Education Commission (HEC) also played a significant role in this achievement, with its Chairman and Director General of Quality Assurance working to uplift the national product abroad. The decision reverses the 2017 de-listing of MS, MD, and MDS degrees, which affected over 4,000 doctors in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf region. AUPSP continues its efforts to enhance the reputation of Pakistan’s medical education internationally, aiming to establish the National Inter University Medical Board to centralize clinical education and align it with global standards.
