Faisal Moiz Khan, President of the North Karachi Association of Trade & Industry (NKATI), has slammed the caretaker government’s decision to significantly raise gas tariffs, calling it a catastrophic move for the industrial sector and a grave risk to the national economy. He demanded an immediate rollback of the gas price increase and called for setting tariffs in consultation with industry stakeholders to reduce the financial strain on industrial production.

Highlighting the severe challenges faced by the industrial sector due to the continuous rise in utility costs, Khan pointed out that the high costs of electricity and gas have made it difficult for businesses to operate, especially affecting exporters by making them less competitive internationally. He stressed that this situation threatens the existence of SMEs and the overall export performance.

Khan criticized the government’s lack of action despite repeated appeals from the industrial community and called on the caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar and ministers Gohar Ejaz and Muhammad Ali to reverse the gas tariff hike. He warned that failing to address these concerns could severely disrupt exports and hinder economic recovery, urging the adoption of industry-friendly policies to promote growth and employment.
