The increase comes after the government introduced a new pricing mechanism under which petroleum prices are now reviewed on a daily basis. Since the new system took effect, both petrol and diesel prices have risen sharply, with further increases feared in the coming days. On the latest revision, the government raised petrol prices by Rs6.39 per litre to Rs327.12, while diesel prices increased by Rs7.83 per litre, taking the new rate to Rs375.04 per litre.
