Honda Integrates Context-Aware Google Gemini AI Into Newer Models
Honda has announced a major tech upgrade for its vehicles, replacing the traditional Google Assistant with the advanced, context-aware Google Gemini AI assistant. This new system allows drivers to interact using natural, everyday speech rather than rigid voice commands.
Unlike its predecessor, Gemini can remember the context of a conversation. Drivers can pause a discussion to focus on traffic and resume it later without starting over. The system also learns from user interactions over time to better understand spoken requests. Gemini handles tasks like summarizing daily news, suggesting restaurants, and creating travel plans hands-free, minimizing touchscreen distractions.

However, the upgrade requires Honda’s “Google built-in” hardware, meaning it is excluded from many lower-priced models. For example, the three most affordable Civic Sedan trims lack the feature, requiring buyers to step up to the Civic Si ($31,495) or the Civic Sport Touring Hybrid ($32,395).
Conversely, Honda is standardizing the technology across its electrified and larger lineups. Every trim of the upcoming Honda Prelude sports coupe, the 2026 Honda Pilot, and the 2026 Honda Passport includes Gemini as standard. The CR-V only features it on the premium Sport Touring Hybrid, while the current Ridgeline pickup and Odyssey minivan do not support it at all.
Even with the AI upgrade, Honda is maintaining traditional physical buttons for essential climate and audio settings, resisting the industry trend of moving all controls to touchscreens.
