AKDN and World Bank Strengthen Partnership on Climate Action, Clean Energy, and Economic Opportunities
Prince Rahim Aga Khan, the 50th hereditary spiritual leader of the Shia Ismaili Muslims and Chair of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), met with World Bank President Ajay Banga today at the Diwan of the Ismaili Imamat in Lisbon, Portugal. This marked their first official meeting since Prince Rahim assumed his leadership role, and it focused on addressing some of the most pressing global challenges facing vulnerable communities worldwide.
During the meeting, the two leaders discussed a wide range of development priorities including humanitarian support for Afghanistan, Central Asia, and Syria, expanding access to clean and affordable energy across Africa, tackling the escalating climate crisis, and creating new job opportunities and avenues for economic growth in underserved regions. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to advancing inclusive and sustainable development through shared expertise and long-standing collaboration.

The World Bank and AKDN have enjoyed a strong working relationship for years, partnering on impactful initiatives in sectors such as health, education, agriculture, technology, and clean energy.
