Swift Action After Foreign Tourist Exposes Pollution at Hunza’s Famous Attabad Lake
A section of a hotel near Hunza’s Attabad Lake has been sealed for illegally discharging sewage water into the lake. Following a report aired by private broadcaster Geo News, the Gilgit-Baltistan Environmental Protection Agency (GB-EPA) took swift action, imposing a fine of Rs1.5 million on the hotel management.
The issue came to light after a foreign tourist raised concerns about waste and sewage being dumped into the picturesque lake. Within 24 hours of the report, authorities acted decisively, sealing part of the hotel and penalizing the owners.
The foreign tourist who highlighted the issue expressed gratitude to the Pakistani government and local administration for their prompt response. “I sincerely thank everyone in Pakistan for taking immediate action and protecting this beautiful natural site,” the tourist remarked.
