Pakistan’s star batter, Babar Azam, achieved a significant milestone by completing 4,000 runs in Test cricket on Day 1 of the Boxing Day Test against South Africa at Centurion. Babar, who needed just three runs to reach this landmark, accomplished it in style by flicking a low full delivery from Corbin Bosch to the boundary past square leg. His achievement adds to his illustrious career, as he becomes the third player in cricket history to score over 4,000 runs in Tests, 5,000 in ODIs, and 4,000 in T20Is.

The achievement, however, was bittersweet. Babar’s innings came to an early end as he was dismissed for just four runs off 11 balls, caught by Markram off Paterson’s bowling. Despite his brief stay at the crease, his milestone was a moment of pride for Pakistan and a testament to his consistency across all formats.
Earlier in the day, South Africa opted to bowl first after winning the toss, aiming to exploit the favorable conditions. The hosts’ bowlers showed early dominance, putting pressure on Pakistan’s batting lineup.
