The judgment, delivered by High Court Judge Stella Mutuku, concluded that Sharif’s murder in 2022 was unconstitutional and violated his rights to life and protection.

A fact-finding team commissioned by the Pakistani government investigated the incident and found evidence suggesting Sharif’s killing was a pre-planned assassination rather than an accidental shooting. The team’s report highlighted discrepancies between autopsy reports from Kenya and Pakistan, indicating possible foul play.

The Kenyan state has been granted 30 days to file an appeal against the ruling, seeking a suspension of the compensation order.
