Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met in Islamabad to discuss increasing trade between their countries. Raisi emphasized the need to raise the current trade volume, calling the existing level unacceptable, and announced plans to boost it to $10 billion. The leaders also discussed religious, cultural, diplomatic, investment, and security matters.
PM Shehbaz praised Raisi’s leadership, calling him an “ocean of political intelligence and wisdom,” and expressed hope for progress in both countries, particularly in trade and business along their shared border. He emphasized the importance of maintaining a strong relationship between Pakistan and Iran despite challenges, describing their bond as an opportunity for prosperity.

The leaders also agreed to collaborate in eradicating terrorism and enhancing trade and communication links. Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also met with Raisi to discuss bilateral relations and regional issues, emphasizing the importance of peace and constructive dialogue. Raisi expressed gratitude for the warm welcome in Pakistan, highlighting the significance of strengthening ties between the two nations.
Raisi and Dar “emphasised the importance of enhanced efforts to further consolidate bilateral relations in diverse fields”, the report said, adding that the two leaders also “affirmed commitment to peace and constructive dialogue for resolving regional challenges”.
