Hackers Recover $3 Million in Bitcoin from 11-Year-Old Wallet After Cracking Lost Password

Two hackers, Grand and Bruno, successfully recovered $3 million in Bitcoin from an 11-year-old wallet after the owner, Michael, lost the password. In 2013, Michael had stored 43.6 BTC in a password-protected wallet, but a corrupted password file rendered it inaccessible.

Experts had deemed the wallet irretrievable until Grand and Bruno reverse-engineered the RoboForm password program Michael used. By pinpointing the date and parameters of the password generation, they cracked the password in November, allowing Michael to reclaim 30 BTC, now valued at over $2 million due to Bitcoin’s increased value.
