From Cyberattacks to Biosecurity: Bill Gates and Experts Sound Alarm Over AI Misuse
Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has expressed deep concern over the growing use of artificial intelligence and its potential risks, warning that if powerful AI technology falls into the wrong hands, the consequences could be catastrophic—including large-scale loss of human life.
In an interview with NBC News, Gates stated that malicious actors could exploit advanced AI tools for objectives far more harmful than any technology or weapons available in the past. He urged the U.S. government to establish clear federal regulations and safety frameworks alongside AI’s rapid development to minimize the potential for misuse.

While AI is already driving major advancements in medicine, education, business, research, and daily life, its expanding capabilities have raised serious security concerns—particularly the threat of criminal groups and bad actors leveraging the technology for malicious purposes.
Rising Cyberattack and Biosecurity Threats
Experts caution that AI could significantly enhance the effectiveness of cyberattacks. Attackers could use AI to identify system vulnerabilities, automate offensive operations, and generate malicious content. Furthermore, the technology makes deepfake identity theft, fraud, sophisticated phishing schemes, and highly convincing synthetic media far easier to produce—posing unprecedented risks to individuals, organizations, and critical infrastructure.
In healthcare, AI accelerates disease diagnosis and the research of new drugs and vaccines. However, experts warn that these same capabilities, if misused, could create severe biosecurity vulnerabilities. Consequently, call-to-actions are growing louder for robust regulations centered on cybersecurity, biosecurity, and the safe deployment of AI technology alongside its rapid advancement.
