Zong and ConnectHear Introduce SILA Technology to Drive Disability-Inclusive Customer Experience in Pakistan

Zong Partners with ConnectHear to Launch AI-Powered Sign Language Accessibility (SILA) Across Customer Service Centers

In celebration of the International Day of Sign Languages on September 23, 2026, Zong 4G has partnered with ConnectHear to introduce AI-powered sign language accessibility at its Customer Service Centers in Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi. Powered by ConnectHear’s proprietary technology, SILA—an AI and Pakistan Sign Language (PSL)-native system—the initiative integrates real-time sign language interpretation directly into the customer service environment. Designed to empower Deaf and hard-of-hearing customers, the technology enables independent access to essential routine services, including SIM management, billing queries, and account assistance, while backed by human interpreters when required.

The official launch took place at Zong’s Islamabad Customer Service Center, attended by representatives from Zong, ConnectHear, the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT), the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), and the GSMA. Key attendees included Muhammad Jahanzeb Rahim (Member Telecom, MoITT), Rabeeya Parvez (Director Coordination, PTA), Malahat Obaid (Director PR, PTA), and Zohaib Jawed (Innovation Fund Manager APAC, GSMA). Highlighted during the ceremony, Zong’s Head of Strategy and Spokesperson, Nabila Yazdani, emphasized that true innovation must extend beyond basic connectivity to create meaningful, dignified access and experiences for all citizens.

Adding to the sentiment, Azima Dhanjee, Co-founder & CEO of ConnectHear, highlighted the personal significance of the initiative, noting that SILA removes communication dependencies so Deaf individuals can independently navigate public spaces. This initial rollout marks the first step in Zong’s broader accessibility roadmap, with plans to progressively expand sign language features across its wider digital ecosystem. By leveraging artificial intelligence and strategic technology partnerships, Zong reinforces its evolution from a telecom provider into a technology services enterprise dedicated to shaping a disability-inclusive digital Pakistan.
