Mastuj Students Seek Reversal of Order Shifting Grade 11 Girls to Rented College
MASTUJ: Twenty-eight Grade 11 girl students of Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Mastuj in Upper Chitral have been protesting for the past week against an order transferring them to a newly established college operating from a rented building. The students, enrolled in FA/FSc first-year programmes, were reportedly barred from entering the school premises following directives from the district education officer (male).

The students and their parents have staged sit-ins outside the school’s main gate, arguing that classes had started around two months earlier and the students had already covered a significant portion of their syllabus. They said shifting them to a rented building located in another part of the town could disrupt their studies and create additional transportation expenses for their families. The students also raised concerns about being removed from the school’s rolls after GHSS Mastuj was administratively designated as a boys’ institution.
GHSS Mastuj Principal Juma Khan said he was implementing the directives issued by the education authorities and was required to restrict the admission of Class XI female students to the school premises. Meanwhile, Upper Chitral Deputy Commissioner Ihsanullah said the district administration was working to find a viable solution and was in contact with senior officials of the Higher Education Department to address the students’ concerns.
