Death Toll in Quetta Coal Mine Explosion Rises to 34 as Rescue Operation Continues
QUETTA: The death toll from a methane gas explosion at a coal mine in the Sorange area near Quetta has risen to 34 after rescue teams recovered eight more bodies from the site. Rescue efforts are continuing as authorities search for the remaining trapped workers.
According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), a total of 42 miners were trapped underground when the methane gas explosion occurred. Rescue teams have been working continuously to clear debris and reach those still believed to be inside the mine.
The mine owner said that 42 workers were inside the mine at the time of the blast. Preliminary findings suggest that the explosion was caused by a buildup of methane gas inside the mine.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister of Balochistan has taken notice of the tragic incident and sought an immediate report from the relevant authorities. He directed officials to conduct a comprehensive investigation and warned that strict legal action would be taken against those found responsible if negligence or failure to implement safety measures is established.
