Explosion at Qatar LNG Plant Kills 13, Injures 66 Including Foreign Workers

Pakistani and Indian Nationals Among Victims of Qatar Gas Plant Blast

A powerful explosion at a liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility in Qatar’s Ras Laffan Industrial City has killed 13 people and injured 66 others, including foreign workers from several countries. The victims reportedly include Pakistani and Indian nationals, while emergency teams rushed to contain the fire and evacuate the injured.

According to QatarEnergy, the blast occurred at the Barzan gas processing facility near Doha while operations were being resumed after a previous shutdown. Authorities said a technical fault triggered the explosion, leading to a major fire that spread through parts of the facility. Initial reports had indicated dozens of injuries and several missing workers.

Officials added that none of the injured individuals are believed to be in critical condition.

QatarEnergy has launched a technical investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident. The company said the explosion did not affect LNG exports, gas processing operations, or activities at Ras Laffan Port, and that all facilities continue to operate normally. Ras Laffan is one of the world’s most important energy hubs, and the incident has raised concerns in global energy markets despite assurances that exports remain uninterrupted.
