Internet Services May Face Disruptions in Pakistan From May 11 to 18: PTCL

PTCL Warns of Internet Slowdowns Due to Submarine Cable Maintenance

Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PTCL) has announced that internet users across Pakistan may experience service degradation due to scheduled maintenance work on one of its submarine cables from May 11 to May 18.

In a statement shared on X, PTCL said the maintenance activity is being carried out by the International Cable Consortium to repair a fault in the undersea cable system. The company noted that internet services could slow down, particularly during evening hours, while the repair work remains underway.

PTCL operates three international undersea optical fibre cable systems that connect Pakistan to the global internet network. Pakistan has frequently faced internet disruptions in recent years because of submarine cable faults and outages. According to a report by Top10VPN.com, Pakistan recorded the highest financial losses globally from internet and social media shutdowns in 2023.
