Russia Opens Market for Pakistani Potatoes, Boosting Exports
Pakistan’s agricultural sector has received a significant uplift after Russia approved the import of potatoes from Punjab, granting access to an important international market.
The approval follows the removal of phytosanitary restrictions by Rosselkhoznadzor, initially allowing selected Pakistani exporters to begin shipments. This development comes as Pakistan witnesses a record potato harvest, estimated at around 12 million tons.
The Trade Development Authority of Pakistan is actively supporting exporters through business-to-business initiatives to strengthen their presence in the Russian market, with expectations that more companies will gain approval in the near future.
Officials believe this step will reduce pressure on local farmers, enhance export opportunities, and further boost Pakistan’s agricultural trade.
