Investment in human capital is indispensable for Pakistan’s progress: Experts

KARACHI: Experts have emphasized that investing in education, encompassing professional development and character building, is essential for creating a prosperous nation and ensuring Pakistan’s sustainable progress.

Speaking as the chief guest at the “CEOs Session: Lead with Vision” held recently in Karachi, renowned business tycoon Arif Habib highlighted that investment in education must be significantly increased by the government, NGOs, and the private sector across the country to achieve lasting economic growth and national prosperity.

He stressed that character building, grounded in moral and religious values, is as important as professional development for the youth. Such holistic education, he said, enhances productivity, strengthens businesses, and supports the country’s overall socio-economic development.

Acknowledging the efforts of various stakeholders promoting education, Habib urged both the government and the private sector to work collaboratively toward a unified national goal of empowering citizens through education, rather than pursuing fragmented efforts that waste valuable resources.

Saad Shah, Director of the Character Education Foundation and CEO of Hexalyze, pointed out that Pakistan’s IT and e-commerce sectors are facing a shortage of skilled professionals, which is slowing their growth and productivity relative to their vast potential.

He added that the available human capital often lacks professionalism, work ethic, and dedication, factors that directly affect organizational performance and growth. Shah emphasized that Gen Z and Gen Alpha must be taught moral and ethical values both in educational institutions and workplaces, as their professional conduct, especially in dealings with international clients, significantly shapes Pakistan’s global reputation.

Mahmood Ahmed, Chairman of the Character Education Foundation (CEF), called for a balanced education system that integrates skill development with ethical and moral instruction.

He noted that Pakistan’s current education system focuses excessively on material success rather than the character building necessary for cultivating a strong, peaceful, and prosperous society.
Ahmed urged the tech community to invest in innovative educational initiatives that combine technical skills with moral values rooted in Islamic teachings.

The session was attended by CEOs and senior professionals from the IT and allied sectors, who collectively underscored the urgent need to invest in human capital as the foundation for Pakistan’s sustainable progress.
