‘Suthra Punjab’ Project: Door-to-Door Garbage Collection, New Tax Approved for Province-Wide Rollout
Starting July 1, the Punjab government will officially implement a new ‘garbage tax’ across both urban and rural areas of the province. The initiative is part of the ambitious ‘Suthra Punjab’ project, aimed at overhauling waste management services and improving overall cleanliness in the region. Local government bodies have already begun formulating strategies for efficient tax collection to support the program’s rollout.

The Punjab Cabinet Standing Committee on Finance and Development has given formal approval to the tax collection plan, clearing the way for its implementation. The ‘Suthra Punjab’ project, backed by an initial budget of Rs200 billion, is focused on enhancing sanitation infrastructure, modernizing waste management systems, and ensuring hygienic conditions in cities and villages alike.
As part of this program, local municipal bodies and waste management companies have procured new machinery and introduced door-to-door garbage collection services in several districts, including Lahore. These efforts aim to provide cleaner streets, improved public health, and an efficient, sustainable waste disposal system for citizens across Punjab.
