India to Export Electricity via Subsea Cables to Middle East in Major Energy Deal
India is reportedly planning a major energy export project involving the construction of two undersea power transmission cables to the Gulf region. According to sources familiar with the matter, the Indian government aims to invest more than $10 billion in laying 1,700 kilometers of undersea cables to Saudi Arabia and another 1,400 kilometers to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
This ambitious initiative is part of India’s strategy to position itself as a key regional power exporter while deepening energy cooperation with Middle Eastern partners. The project will enable India to transmit surplus electricity — generated from both conventional and renewable sources — directly to the Gulf countries through high-capacity subsea cables.
Once completed, these undersea connections are expected to strengthen India’s economic and strategic ties with Saudi Arabia and the UAE, contributing to regional energy security and opening up new markets for Indian power producers.
