Russian President Putin Kisses Holy Quran During Visit to Chechnya’s “Prophet Jesus” Mosque

Russian President Vladimir Putin made headlines after a video surfaced showing him kissing the Holy Quran during a visit to the “Prophet Jesus” mosque in Grozny, Chechnya. The gold-encrusted Quran was presented to him as a gift during his first visit to the region in 13 years. The mosque, a newly-constructed site of significance for Muslims, hosted Putin and Chechnya’s leader, Ramzan Kadyrov, who posed for pictures holding the sacred text.

This isn’t the first time Putin has received a Quran as a gift. Last year, during a visit to the Derbent mosque in Dagestan, he was given a copy of the Quran in celebration of Eid ul Adha. His stance on protecting religious sanctity has been highlighted in the context of recent incidents in Sweden, where the Quran was desecrated.
