Kaspersky Report: AI Chatbots Gain Popularity Among Pakistani Kids in 2025
Kaspersky’s latest annual report (May 2024–April 2025) on children’s digital habits reveals a rapidly changing landscape, with a growing fascination for AI-powered chatbots among young users. YouTube remains the undisputed favorite globally, while WhatsApp has overtaken TikTok for second place. In Pakistan, children spend most of their time on YouTube (42.90%), followed by WhatsApp, Instagram, and TikTok. Interestingly, Character.AI entered Pakistan’s top app list, highlighting children’s increasing interest in AI chatbots, with over 7.5% of all online searches globally now AI-related — a significant jump from 3.19% last year.

The report highlights that kids spend a considerable amount of daily screen time: 6 hours for ages 8–10 and around 9 hours for preteens (11–14). Video content dominates children’s online activity, with 18% of search queries related to streaming services like YouTube, Netflix, and Disney+. Popular gaming platforms such as Roblox, Minecraft, and Poki remain favorites, while the rise of AI chatbot platforms like ChatGPT and Character.AI indicates a shift towards interactive, AI-powered digital experiences. WhatsApp’s rise reflects changing communication trends as kids increasingly use messaging apps to share memes, videos, and links.

Kaspersky privacy expert Anna Larkina emphasized the need for parents to stay involved in their children’s digital lives. She recommended open conversations about online risks, setting clear digital boundaries, and using reliable cybersecurity tools like Kaspersky Premium and Kaspersky Safe Kids. Educational resources such as the Cybersecurity Alphabet can help teach children basic cyber hygiene and fraud prevention in a fun, age-appropriate way. The report underscores the importance of creating safer digital spaces while understanding and embracing evolving digital cultures.
