Russia Develops mRNA-Based Cancer Vaccine to Be Distributed Free of Cost by 2025

Russia’s Health Ministry has announced the development of an mRNA-based cancer vaccine designed to treat cancer patients rather than prevent the disease. According to Andrey Kaprin, General Director of the Radiology Medical Research Centre, the vaccine will be made available at no cost starting in early 2025. Pre-clinical trials have shown promising results, including suppression of tumor growth and reduced potential for metastases, as confirmed by Alexander Gintsburg, Director of the Gamaleya National Research Center.

Russian President Vladimir Putin had previously hinted at breakthroughs in cancer vaccines, describing them as part of a new generation of immunomodulatory drugs. While details on the targeted cancer types remain undisclosed, the vaccine signifies a major advancement in oncology. Other nations, like the UK and Germany, are also working on personalized cancer treatments, while pharmaceutical companies Moderna and Merck have developed an experimental melanoma vaccine showing a 50% reduction in recurrence or death over three years.
