PTA Blocks Millions of Daily Attempts to Access Pornographic Content in Pakistan Amid VPN Challenges
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) reported that nearly 20 million daily attempts to access pornographic websites are blocked at the international gateway level, underscoring the scale of its efforts to restrict such content in Pakistan. Besides PTA’s active interventions, individuals and government organizations are also helping report such sites to ensure consistent action against restricted content.
However, users often bypass these blocks using VPNs, posing a significant challenge to effective content control. PTA emphasized its commitment to curbing this issue and is employing various measures to prevent access to restricted material, despite the technological barriers posed by VPNs.

Following a nationwide disruption affecting VPNs, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) announced plans to restrict VPN usage to further limit access to pornographic content. According to PTA’s statement, the authority has already blocked 844,008 pornographic websites and 100,183 URLs containing blasphemous material as part of its content moderation efforts.
This initiative aligns with a recent request from the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony urging PTA to intensify efforts against blasphemous and adult content online. The PTA highlighted these actions as part of its ongoing commitment to digital content regulation in Pakistan.
