UMT Expands Scholarship Program, Boosting Financial Aid to 61% in Effort to Address Pakistan’s Low Enrollment Rates
The University of Management and Technology (UMT) is leading a transformative effort to improve educational access and quality in Pakistan, where only 10% of the population has access to higher education. Under the leadership of President ILM Fund/UMT Ibrahim Hasan Murad, the university has expanded its scholarship program, increasing financial aid from 40% to 61% over the past five years. This initiative addresses Pakistan’s low Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER), which lags behind countries like the U.S., South Korea, and India.

UMT’s scholarship funding has grown significantly, with over Rs. 11 billion in revenue waived to support students, representing a 400% increase from 2018. This growth highlights the university’s dedication to supporting underprivileged students and sets a global standard for social entrepreneurship in education. President Ibrahim Murad emphasized UMT’s crucial role in promoting social mobility and empowering diverse communities through enhanced access to quality education.
LUMS Welcomes Over 1,200 Exceptional Students for 2024 Cohort
The university’s efforts include supporting around 1,000 orphans and emphasizing women’s empowerment, recognizing the pivotal role of educated women in driving social and economic progress. Murad credited these achievements to the collective efforts of UMT’s faculty, staff, students, and alumni, urging continued advocacy for the value of higher education in Pakistan’s future success.
