Sadpara had been on an expedition to summit Broad Peak with a Portuguese mountaineer
Renowned Pakistani mountaineer Murad Sadpara, who led this year’s K2 cleanup expedition, tragically passed away after sustaining severe injuries during his descent from Broad Peak. The Broad Peak Rescue Team confirmed Sadpara’s death after reaching Camp One.

This heartbreaking news comes just days after Sadpara successfully retrieved the body of fellow mountaineer Hasan Shagri from K2’s extreme heights. Sadpara had been on an expedition to summit Broad Peak with a Portuguese mountaineer when they decided to return to base camp due to the Portuguese climber’s illness. Unfortunately, Sadpara was fatally injured by a falling rock during their descent.
Sadpara’s body has been moved to the Japanese camp and is expected to be transported to Skardu via an army helicopter later today. The rescue operation saw the involvement of multiple climbers and rescue team members, highlighting the challenging and dangerous conditions of high-altitude mountaineering. Sadpara was widely respected for his contributions to mountaineering, including his efforts to bring down the body of an Afghan mountaineer from Camp Three last year.
President Asif Ali Zardari expressed deep sorrow over Sadpara’s passing, recognizing his significant achievements and extending condolences to his bereaved family. Sadpara, a dedicated mountaineer and father of four, balanced his passion for climbing with working as a tractor driver during the winter months, leaving behind a legacy of bravery and resilience in the mountaineering community.
