Shahid Afridi Denounces Misleading Photo, Expresses Solidarity with Palestinians Amid Gaza Crisis
Former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi clarified his stance on social media after a pro-Israel group shared his photograph, claiming it was an endorsement of their cause. Afridi explained that the photo was taken in Manchester, UK, during a casual interaction with individuals who he believed were fans. He emphasized that his picture with the group’s officials, who held pro-Israel pamphlets, was misconstrued and did not reflect his views.
Afridi expressed heartbreak over the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza, where over 37,000 Palestinians, mainly women and children, have been killed following Israeli airstrikes and ground invasions. He urged people not to misinterpret his photo as support for any situation where human lives are at stake and reiterated his prayers for peace and an end to the ongoing conflict.
The pro-Israel group, North West Friends of Israel, which shared the photo, claimed Afridi took the picture with his own camera and willingly supported their cause for the release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas. Afridi, however, criticized the group, insisting the interaction was a simple selfie and not an endorsement of their message.
Afridi’s reaction highlighted the importance of verifying the context of shared images on social media, especially in sensitive and volatile situations. He reiterated his commitment to peace and condemned any misrepresentation of his actions or beliefs.
