Pakistan Slips to 145th in Global Gender Gap Index 2024, Highlighting Worsening Gender Disparities

Pakistan ranks 145th out of 146 countries in the Global Gender Gap Index 2024, a drop from 142nd in 2023, signaling increasing challenges in achieving gender parity.

Amir Jahangir, CEO of Mishal Pakistan, highlighted that the country’s poor performance in the Global Gender Gap Report 2024 underscores the persistent gender disparities that impede national progress. Despite some educational improvements, significant gaps remain in economic participation, political empowerment, and health.

Jahangir stressed the urgent need for more effective gender empowerment initiatives. While some efforts have been made, the overall impact on gender parity is still limited. To tackle these challenges, the government must prioritize comprehensive policies that promote women’s workforce participation, ensure equitable access to quality education, and enhance women’s representation in political and leadership roles.
