Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced a historic package for farmers, which includes the establishment of the Punjab Kisan Bank, the Green Tractor Scheme, local production of harvesters and agricultural equipment, and an Oilseed Promotion Program.
A meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister and President of Pakistan Muslim League (N) Nawaz Sharif was held to provide a detailed briefing on the farmer’s package.
During the meeting, a principled decision was made to establish the Punjab Kisan Bank to provide easy loans to farmers. The CM also approved the Punjab Green Tractor Scheme for farmers but rejected the proposal for a subsidy of only 600,000 rupees per tractor.
The Chief Minister directed a 70% subsidy for small tractors and a 50% subsidy for large tractors, while on Nawaz Sharif’s suggestion, the number of tractors under the Punjab Green Tractor Scheme was increased by 10,000.
Maryam Nawaz ordered the completion of the first phase of the Punjab Green Tractor Scheme within a year. It was also decided in principle to increase the number of tractors under the scheme annually.
During the briefing, it was informed that owners of 6 to 50 acres of land would be eligible to apply for the tractor scheme.
