Veteran Pakistani Actor Talat Hussain Passes Away at 83

Veteran Pakistani actor Talat Hussain, renowned for his contributions to both local and international cinema, passed away at 83 in Karachi after a prolonged illness. His family and the president of the Arts Council, Ahmed Shah, confirmed his passing on Sunday. Talat Hussain was diagnosed with dementia, which severely affected his ability to recognize people, and his health had deteriorated significantly over the past few years.

In addition to dementia, Talat Hussain’s health was compromised by lung issues due to smoking, which frequently necessitated hospital visits to drain fluid from his lungs. His illness had confined him to a wheelchair and bed, with treatment primarily conducted at home. Recently, his daughter, Tazeen Hussain, had requested fans to pray for his recovery. Talat Hussain’s career spanned over six decades, during which he left an indelible mark on Pakistani and international film, television, and stage.

Talat Hussain’s illustrious career included notable performances in the British series ‘Traffik’ and ‘Family Pride,’ as well as the Norwegian film ‘Import-export,’ for which he won the Amanda Award. He also appeared in the Indian film ‘Sautan Ki Beti’ and had a guest role in the biographical epic ‘Jinnah.’ Born in 1940, Hussain studied at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and received several prestigious awards, including the Sitara-e-Imtiaz in 2021 and the Pride of Performance Award in 1982. He is survived by his wife, professor Rakhshanda Hussain, and their three children.
