A Grade 17 government officer who claimed to hold a BA in Mathematics failed to spell “Math” correctly in court.
The Sindh High Court issued a notice in response to a petition against the cancellation of leased plots in Qureshi Cooperative Society, summoning the Registrar of Cooperative Society. During the hearing, the court expressed severe displeasure with the Registrar, Muharram Ali Sand, for not providing satisfactory answers to judicial questions.

When questioned about his qualifications, Muharram Ali Sand, a Grade 17 officer in the Local Government department, stated he had a BA in Mathematics. Justice Salahuddin Panhwar questioned which university offers a BA in Mathematics, to which Sand replied he completed a private BA from Shah Latif University. The court then asked him to spell “Math,” but Sand failed, causing laughter among the lawyers and attendees in the courtroom.
The petition claimed that the Registrar of Cooperative Societies, an officer of Grade 18, was appointed in Grade 19. The court questioned how a Grade 18 officer could be appointed to a Grade 19 position. The petition stated that the Registrar of Qureshi Cooperative Society had canceled the lease of the plots. The hearing was adjourned until May 22.
