Pakistani School Wins Zayed Sustainability Prize for Water Conservation and Organic Farming Project
A Pakistani school operated by the Kashmir Orphan Relief Trust (KORT) has won the prestigious Zayed Sustainability Prize, securing $100,000 for its exceptional project on water conservation and organic farming. The award was presented at the UN climate conference in Dubai, where the KORT School and College of Excellence, based in Azad Kashmir, triumphed over finalists from India and Bangladesh.
The KORT School focuses on providing education and support to over 500 orphaned children and recently expanded by opening another school in Swabi in October. The winning project addresses the critical issue of clean drinking water scarcity in Pakistan by implementing water filtration plants, sensor taps to reduce wastage, and promoting organic farming for better nutrition.

Sumaiya Bibi, a 19-year-old representative of the trust, emphasized the urgency of the initiative, noting that clean drinking water in Pakistan could be depleted by 2025. The Zayed Sustainability Prize, named after UAE’s founding father Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, recognizes impactful initiatives in health, food, energy, water, and climate, and has positively influenced millions of lives over the past 15 years.
