In a heart-wrenching incident in Chitral’s Kailash Valley, a young player tragically lost his life after falling from the ceiling while attempting to retrieve a ball during a snow hockey game. Sher Anjum, a 25-year-old resident of Broontar village, was playing an ancient cultural game of ice hockey with a specially designed black wooden ball, meant to stand out against the ice. The unfortunate accident occurred when the ball landed on the roof of an under-construction police station, and Sher Anjum, in his attempt to retrieve it, fell through the snow-covered ceiling to his death.

The heavy snowfall had rendered the Kailash Valley road impassable, delaying emergency medical assistance and contributing to the player’s untimely death. The community mourns the loss of Sher Anjum, whose family is already coping with the loss of his father, Sultan Rome. This tragedy has highlighted the dire need for better emergency response infrastructure and medical facilities in the region. Residents and local elders have called on the Kailash Development Authority to utilize available machinery for road clearance and demanded the appointment of a permanent doctor at the Basic Health Unit in Bumborat to prevent such losses in the future.
