Javeria Siddique, the wife of the late journalist Arshad Sharif, has taken legal action against the Kenyan Elite police unit in connection with her husband’s murder in Kenya. In her petition, Siddique has named the Kenyan attorney general, the nation’s national police force, and the director of public prosecution as respondents.

Her primary objective in this legal action is to ensure that the officers responsible for the murder of Arshad Sharif are prosecuted and duly punished for their actions. She has further urged the court to instruct the Kenyan attorney general to issue an apology to Sharif’s family within seven days of the court’s orders, admit the truth, take ownership of the incident, and provide a formal written apology.

Siddique expressed her determination to seek justice for her husband, stating, “I have got a case registered in Nairobi for seeking justice in the murder case of my husband. We got the case registered against the general service unit of Kenya because they committed a crime publicly and then admitted it was a matter of mistaken identity. But to me, it was targeted murder. But the Kenyan government never apologized. They never contacted us.”

This legal action comes in response to reports that the five Kenyan police officers involved in the journalist’s killing quietly resumed their duties without facing any repercussions. Shockingly, these officers, responsible for the brutal murder that took place at a roadblock in a remote area of East Africa, are still receiving full police benefits nine months after the incident. Furthermore, two of the officers have even been promoted to senior ranks.
